Hello Friends,
Two things:
1. Monday 2 May. The Green Door Restaurant is generously hosting a full course vegetarian dinner in support of Friends of Lansdowne Legal Challenge. This event, endorsed by the Old Ottawa East Community Association, will feature folksingers Missy Burgess and Chris White, as well as an update on legal matters by lawyer Steven Shrybman.
We can enjoy this time together and still get home in time to watch the election results roll in. Tickets $50, available at the Green Door, Compact Music, Babbo's Italian Food Shop & Phat Moose Cycles. All proceeds will support the FOL legal challenge.
You can see the ad for this fundraising event here.
Love to see you there.
2. Ontario Municipal Board appeals. Please consider supporting Frank Johnson and John Rive in their appeals of the rezoning of Lansdowne Park. Hearings before the Ontario Municipal Board begin on Monday 9 May.
As you may have heard, most of the original appellants, including the Glebe Community Association and the Old Ottawa South Community Association settled during the mediation stage. They gained some concessions, but the inappropriate rezoning --which permits commercial and residential use and high rise buildings in a public park remains in place.
Frank and John (and one other individual appellant) decided to carry on to the adjudication stage. Representing them will be Tony Fleming, a specialist in municipal planning law, from the firm Cunningham Swan of Kingston. They will be appealing the zoning provided for in By-Law 2010-329 on the basis that it does not comply with the City of Ottawa Official Plan.
The hearings, expected to last for one week, will cost Frank and John an estimated $35,000 in legal fees. Their case has merit and it is another initiative that could derail the flawed Lansdowne Partnership Plan.
You can support Frank and John by sending a cheque payable to:
