The Friends of Lansdowne has 3 great fundraisers coming up over the next two weekends. Whether you're into visual art, music, dance, or just plain fun, come out and enjoy our activities and help us raise funds for the Lansdowne Legal Challenge at the same time.
This weekend: Friends of Lansdowne booth at The New Art Festival
Come visit the Friends of Lansdowne booth at the New Art Festival (Central Park in the Glebe) between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday June 4 and Sunday June 5th for a chance to become the owner of some great works of art. We are very grateful to renowned local artists Phillip Craig, Christopher Griffin and Jaya Krishnan for donating paintings to the cause. As well, Jamelie Hassan, recipient of the Governor General's Award for the Visual Arts has donated a limited edition print. Come take part in a silent auction or buy a raffle ticket for a chance to win a framed drawing of what Lansdowne Park could be, as imagined by Bhat Boy. The New Art Festival is a great, family-friendly outdoor art event and we encourage you all to come and see the type of wonderful experiences that can be had in a city park which is truly public and community-oriented. Find out more http://www.artinfoboy.org. The event is FREE.
Next Weekend: Two Outstanding Events -- Caribbean Night and Lansdowne Follies 2
The weekend of June 11 promises to be a memorable one. There are two oustanding events, both in support of the Friends of Lansdowne legal challenge.
On June 11 at 7 p.m. we invite you to Dance Under the Stars at Windsor Park. The tennis courts near the river will be magically transformed into a Latin American dance floor. Featured will be the hot rhythms of the Caridad Cruz Trio and the mellow tones of the Nepean Panharmonics Steel Band. A pig roast and Jamaican patties are included. There will be a cash bar. Bring your own lawn chair for relaxing between dances.
Tickets of $40 for Caribbean Night are available online at oldottawasouth.ca and at the Old Firehall, Compact Music, Havana Cafe and the Ottawa Folklore Centre. Further information available at www.oldottawasouth.ca or call 613-247-4872.
On June 12 at 4 p.m. at the Mayfair Theatre we are proud to present an evening of unbridled fun, as we usher in the long-awaited sequel to our first Lansdowne Follies -- Lansdowne Follies 2. After the sold out triumph in February, we have lined up another excellent cast, headed by 2011 Juno award winner Kellylee Evans. With her sultry voice and wonderful stylings, she is fast gaining a reputation as a jazz phenom. We are also very fortunate to have songwriter and guitar virtuoso Terry Tufts. Terry has worked with a variety of celebrated artists, including Tom Paxton, Susan Aglukark, David Francey, and Wayne Rostad. Maude Barlow, prominent social rights activist, will speak to us on an issue close to the heart of Friends of Lansdowne: the conservation of public spaces. In addition, there are comedic surprises and up-to-date information on the legal challenge with our lawyer Steven Shrybman. Tickets are available for $30 at Compact Music, the Ottawa Folklore Centre, and the Mayfair Theatre.
LET'S FILL THE MAYFAIR AGAIN !
